Fidelity Charitable

Fidelity Charitable is a donor advised fund which funnels money from wealthy donors to an array of organizations that support Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their homeland, the US military and US security state, the privatization of public education, and other forms of racism, violence, and dispossession.

Donor advised funds like Fidelity Charitable function as recipients of large sums of money from wealthy individuals, which DAFs then channel to those wealthy donors' desired recipient organizations as donations from the DAF without the necessity of public transparency that the donation came from the specific wealthy donor. In this way, Donor Advised Funds allow the wealthy to support organizations without the public necessarily knowing they are doing so or knowing the extent to which they are doing so. Donor Advised Funds do, however, disclose the donor behind a given donation to the charity receiving it, ensuring that while the donors remain anonymous to the public, they still receive attention from and, in some cases, gain influence in the organizations receiving their gifts. (See essay on foundations for more information on DAFs.)

Fidelity Charitable describes itself as "the nation's top grantmaker, distributing $9.1 billion to charities in 2020." As of the end of fiscal year 2020, assets within Fidelity Charitable totaled $35.37 billion. Moreover, Fidelity Charitable has reported that they accrued $15 billion in capital gains on these assets between 2011-2020, gains which faced little to no taxation due to the exemptions from which DAFs benefit.

Funding Zionist Organizations

Fidelity Charitable funnels large sums of money from its donors into Zionist lobbying organizations, think tanks, media outlets, and university initiatives. These include (but are not limited to):

Support for the US Military and US Security State

Moreover, Fidelity Charitable funnels money from its donors into organizations which support the US military and US security state. These include (but are not limited to):

Support for the Privatization of Public Schools

Fidelity Charitable also funnels money from its donors into organizations which support the privatization of public education through charter school expansion and/or opposition to teachers unions. These include (but are not limited to):

Support for Local University, Medical, Science, Arts, and Advocacy Organizations

Fidelity Charitable also funnels money from its donors into local university, medical, science, arts, and advocacy organizations, some of which themselves support Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their homeland and/or support other forms of racism and militarism, and which are accordingly included on our map. These include (but are not limited to):

Local Opposition

Beginning in 2019, community members and organizations in Boston launched a coalition called Unmasking Fidelity. The Unmasking Fidelity coalition has called upon Fidelity Charitable to publicly disclose the contributions it made between FY2016 and FY2021 to Alliance Defending Freedom, Americans for Peace and Tolerance, Center for Security Policy, Central Fund of Israel, David Horowitz Freedom Center, Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation, Family Research Council, Federation for American Immigration Reform, Turning Point USA, and the VDARE Foundation, 10 groups which the coalition states "promote anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, anti-Black or anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and policies that enable white supremacist and fascist violence." The Unmasking Fidelity coalition has also demanded that Fidelity Charitable "share publicly about policies or screens that are currently being used to determine which organizations can receive DAF grants, and provide examples of organizations you have determined will not receive DAF grants based on your criteria."
