In 2014, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) awarded MA-based weapons developer Raytheon a $130M contract to build an electronic toll collection system for the state. MassDOT also works with companies such as CDM Smith, a MA-based construction company that builds military bases, including for Israel (see entry on CDM Smith). Furthermore, MassDOT is responsible for the MBTA's role in polluting the air in majority Black and Brown communities in the Boston area (e.g., in the Boston neighborhoods of East Boston and Roxbury).
