iRobot is a robotics company co-founded by MIT professor Rodney Brooks, whose lab has received funding from the Pentagon in recent years. iRobot has derived a total of $450.29 million to date through US Department of Defense contracts for the provision of products and services to the US as well as the Israeli militaries. $379.76 million (85.27%) of iRobot's revenues from sales to the DoD have come from DoD contracts which USASpending.org categorizes as: "SURFACE USE EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT." As reported in The Atlantic, "In 2007, iRobot released a semi-autonomous robot equipped with a gun from now-defunct Metal Storm. The gun could fire 16 rounds a second.
